Ivi Diamantopoulou is a designer, educator, and co-founder of New York-
based New Affiliates. With New Affiliates, Diamantopoulou explores how architecture is shaped by, and shapes, local economies and dynamic systems through its
practice and form. The studio is currently working with various branches of the
New York City government on identifying alternative forms of reuse through
public infrastructures among other projects. Recently built works range in scale
from a 21-linear-feet long wall to a 7,500-square-foot studio art building. The
studio also works with cultural institutions to collaborate with living artists and
organize and design exhibitions and large-scale installations. Recent institutional
works were completed at the Shed, Joyce Theater, Canadian Center for Architecture,
and Jewish Museum in New York. Her work and writing have been featured in
Log, T Magazine, Metropolis, Dwell, Die Zeit, and Architect Magazine and
appeared in the 2019 Performa Biennial, 2016 Venice Biennial, Storefront for Art
and Architecture, Princeton School of Architecture, and Onassis Cultural Center
among others. Recent awards include the Architectural League Prize and the
AIA’s New York New Practices Award, both in 2020.
Ivi has previously taught design, history, and theory at schools including
Princeton and Sarah Lawrence College and is currently an Assistant Teaching
Professor at Syracuse. She holds a Master of Architecture from Princeton
University—where she was awarded the Suzanne Kolarik Underwood Prize for
excellence in design and a Stanley J Seeger fellowship—and a Diploma (with
honors) in Architecture and Engineering from the University of Patras in Greece.
