Columbia GSAPP’s Extraction Laboratory is a research team that extracts architecture from situations, rather than places.

The Urban Design Lab is a research unit in collaboration with Columbia University’s Earth Institute, created in 2005 to address the need for a design-based approach to shaping the long range future of sustainable urbanism. While drawing on the resources of The Earth Institute, principal collaborators also engage the Fu Foundation of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS).
