GSAPP Scholarships

In the 2023-2024 academic year, GSAPP is launching additional scholarship applications for master’s students, when scholarship support will no longer be bundled with salary payments for TA and RA positions. The direct salary component of assistantship positions has been raised, while the financial aid is allocated through a separate process to recognize both need and merit. This allows GSAPP to better address students’ needs by offering more opportunities to receive support through direct financial aid.

Information on the assistantship application process and salary is posted on the Assistantships webpage. In addition to applying for assistantships, full-time master’s students enrolled in the 2023-2024 academic year have the opportunity to apply for both merit-based and need-based scholarships. Separate applications will be available through the GSAPP Financial Aid Office in Summer 2023, and the awards will be disbursed in the Fall 2023 semester.

GSAPP Scholarship Opportunities
Admissions Scholarships

Columbia GSAPP offers institutional financial aid to support the graduate education of the most highly qualified applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and nationalities. Awarded at the time of admission, GSAPP scholarships for incoming students are competitive and are awarded based on recommendations by the program’s admissions committee.

All applicants are considered as part of the admissions review and there is no separate application form. Recipients are notified through their offer of admission.

Need-based Scholarships

In the 2022-23 academic year, Columbia GSAPP established a scholarship funded by Dean’s Office to provide tuition-relieving, need-based scholarships for currently enrolled master’s students. Selections are made based on the Scholarship Need Assessment submissions in order to prioritize the students with the greatest financial need.

In the 2023-24 academic year this scholarship will be expanded to offer one-time awards of up to $10,000 each. The application process consists of a Need Assessment Form, which is available in Summer 2023 for awards to be disbursed in the Fall 2023 semester.

Please see below for details and application form, which must be completed by the July 28, 2023 deadline.

Merit-based Scholarships

Beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year, full-time master’s students will also have the opportunity to apply for one-time merit-based scholarships of $10,000 each. A separate application will be available in Summer 2023 for awards to be disbursed in the Fall 2023 semester.

Please see below for details and application form, which must be completed by the August 20, 2023 deadline.

Need-based and merit-based scholarships are not exclusive of one another, and eligible enrolled students are invited to apply to all opportunities for consideration. For additional information on cost of attendance and funding resources, please see the Tuition and Aid webpage.
