apparatus of projection

The Apparatus of Projection - A Reconstruction of John Jay and New York Manumission Society’s Legacy is a proposal that architecturally curates the history of John Jay’s controversial legacy at the historic site of Jay Estate. Through a series of transformations to the colonial-style carriage house, the proposed visitor center/exhibition center is a projection of the historic building that reinterprets a critical moment in United States history. The building will be home to a three-part exhibit examining the legacy of John Jay, the New York Manumission Society, and New York African Free School in the early 19th century through the display of archival documents, literature, and artifacts.
