Reclaimed Threshold

This project looks at Broadway as a large corridor, where the center medium, or “The Mall” generates different synergy with corresponding blocks, which is caused by the 1 train running through the middle. The project reclaims the unused medium space and utilizes it to up-zone the area by providing mini housing units for the transients, and to serve as a hub to offer opportunities for both long and short-term residents to coexist.

Each unit and its in-between spaces provide programs such as apartments, collective living rooms, full-size kitchen, and in between niches that allow flexible programming.

The medium apartments are able to connect not only with each other but also into the neighboring buildings. This large corridor of Broadway then becomes more than just for access, but a cultural hub that serves as a catalyst between the locals and transients.
