The Polykatoikia as a Creative Infrastructure

Project by Sebastian Suarez @sebastian.7815

This project positions music as a form of craft—an active system connecting bodies, tools, space, and community. Sound practices like sampling, layering, and improvisation are intertwined with graphic culture, where posters and print make music visible and spatial. Set in Exarcheia, the project draws from its underground networks of DIY venues and hybrid cultural spaces, where artists such as Negros Tou Moria blend traditional and contemporary genres to produce new sonic identities. Community is understood as fluid, composed of makers, listeners, and residents collaborating across domestic spaces. The building acts as a “music box,” with materials shaping acoustic and production conditions. Flexible monocells embed living within making, transforming spaces between rest and production. The stoa mediates public and private life, enabling exchange and display. Ultimately, the project proposes architecture as an active participant in cultural creation and collective expression.
