Ricardo Flores

Ricardo Flores is an Architect from the School of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of Buenos Aires, and has a Doctor in Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya UPC.

In 1998, he established Flores & Prats Architects together with Eva Prats in Barcelona, a studio that combines design and constructive practice with an intense academic activity. The practice has worked throughout Europe on projects of adaptive reuse, social housing, and urban public spaces with neighbours’ participation.

The work of Flores & Prats obtained, among others, the Grand Award in Architecture at the Royal Academy of Arts of London 2008, the City of Barcelona Award 2016, the City of Palma Award 2017, the AD Architects of the Year 2018, and the AR New into Old Award 2019. They have been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Awards on several occasions, and exhibited in the last five editions of La Biennale di Venezia, including 2023 with their proposal Emotional Heritage at the Corderie dell’Arsenale.

Ricardo is Associate Professor at ETSA in Barcelona, and has been Guest Professor, conducted workshops, and guest lecturer at several universities in America, Europe, and Australia.

Some of the publications on Flores & Prats are the monographic book Thought by Hand. The Architecture of Flores & Prats, the #1 issue of Archives Journal of Architecture (2017), Sala Beckett / International Drama Centre (2020), the #1 issue of Archives Universum (2022), the book of writings Drawing without Erasing and Other Essays (2023), and the recently published Building Communities / Rehabilitation and Housing in Barcelona and Zurich (2024), on Eva Prats’ Design Studio at ETH Zurich D-Arch.
