Gabrielle Brainard, AIA, CPHC, is an architect, facade specialist, and educator. Her work includes building envelope consulting, academic research, and teaching in undergraduate and graduate architecture programs. Her current projects address the challenge of decarbonizing the built environment, with a focus on the building envelope and the existing built context of New York City and State.
Research projects include a feasibility study of high-performance retrofits of multifamily housing in New York State, funded by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and an architects’ guide to envelope retrofits, funded by the AIA Upjohn Research Initiative. In addition, she is a technical consultant on a variety of retrofit projects, from historic brick rowhouses to a 1960s-era precast concrete dormitory.
Previously, Gabrielle was a facade consultant at Heintges Consulting Architects and Engineers, and a senior technical architect at SHoP Architects, where she specialized in the design and delivery of custom facades for large-scale, iconic projects in New York City.
