P.S. 64 reimagined as the Flipped School proposes a radically alternative form of education, one that embraces what the city has to teach us by extending the multiplicity of the urban experience into the classroom. The Flipped School is a place for active and social modes of learning––it hopes to produce “street smart” kids. Advocates for the flipped classroom pedagogy have shown that human brain activity during a lecture is akin to watching television. In the flipped classroom, activities typically done at school are done at home and vice-versa. Flipped School embraces flipped pedagogy through spaces that blur the lines between classroom and recess, city and school.
