The Manhattanville Mall project revisits the paradigm of infrastructure and what it means to be public space in service of the people and the city. A junction of religious, celebratory, and political spaces nested beneath the IRT Broadway Line and open to the street are inspired by the spontaneous rhythms of Jazz and the powerful flows of Soul. The concrete and steel structure reclaims the Avenue acting as both a new focal point for the local community and a symbol of permanence against continual displacement and the threat of gentrification in Manhattanville.
