Inspired by Newburgh’s historic architecture and classic boathouse architecture, this proposal expands the original Newburgh Boathouse with large second-story dormers. In cantilevering past the original building’s extents, dormers define a wrap-around portico facilitating outdoor circulation and providing a conditioned gathering space for races or community purposes. The dormers are a modern interpretation of the classic boathouse dormer, bringing light and views into the building.
