Intentional inconvenience: sloped topography

Project by: Hyunyoung Kim

This project proposes a sustainable educational environment in Colombia, utilizing bamboo as the primary structural material for its abundance and self-sufficiency. The design reimagines the roof as a multifunctional topography centered on ‘Intentional Inconvenience.’ By integrating varied slopes and stairs made of bamboo and steel, the roofscape transforms into slides, outdoor classrooms, and athletic fields, encouraging continuous movement and physical development. Instead of providing a static environment, this topography challenges children to discover new physical behaviors, fostering their innate creativity through active exploration. Reflecting the local climate, the main bamboo structure remains open-air, while protected zones are defined by adaptable bamboo partitions, ensuring a seamless transition between nature and education.
