Monastery Extension

Jasmin Lin

For my Studio IV project, I designed a Mindfulness Center in Catskill, NY, that bridges the historical gap between scholarly study and spiritual practice. Inspired by both Western monastic traditions and the philosophy of Thich Nhat Hanh, the project manifest as two woven structures: a circular “Theory” building symbolizing the breadth of intellectual inquiry, and a linear “Praxis” building designed for the focused mastery of mindful arts. Through thick-walled corridors, communal kitchens, and integrated landscape paths, the design creates a transitional journey that culminates in the shared experience of the Great Meditation Hall.
