River to River Soft Ground

Project by Nutdanai Nye Paisantuksin @nye9th

The project reimagines the George Washington Bridge Bus Station neighborhood as a continuous soft ground that reconnects Washington Heights. Today, the bus station, highway, and bridge approaches divide the area. This proposal softens these hard infrastructures and turns them into a connected public landscape that stretches from the Hudson River to the Harlem River. A new ground is created across three layers: below, between, and above. Together, they form one continuous space for everyday life, including housing, reading, gathering, sports, and relaxation. Instead of separating people, the project brings activities together and makes infrastructure a place to live, use, and connect.
