Soft Breath

In Black Rock Forest, there are many streams with fish. My project is a fish research center for researchers and the public.

As this building is located in a forest and surrounded by streams, I hope users of this building can enjoy nature as much as possible. Thus, I use a lot of soft boundaries to let sunlight and wind in.

I set three layers for the building, the outer layer with soft and translucent material and the inner layer with hard and transparent material. In this way, I hope users in the building can enjoy nature as much as possible, while still having controlled indoor space.

This research center may open to the public at some specific time. To avoid the public from disturbing the researchers, I designed two routes for them, and they can also come together when it’s needed. Researchers use stairs and elevators to travel vertically, while the public use ramps.
