KIN HOUSE provides the space for healing through relationships. The facility targets those who have a history of opioid addiction, who we refer to as “friends in need”. Specifically, we target those who have been addicted in the past but have recently undergone a detox treatment. The danger of relapse is especially high following an intensive addiction program, and KIN HOUSE supports individuals during this critical period through therapy treatment and providing the tools, spaces, and equipment for the development of new, healthy relationships and interests, as well as medical support for physical health.
In addition to providing therapy and activity spaces, we emphasize using art and craft-making as a route to self-discovery and bonding with others. Our living spaces are also designed to facilitate the development of relationships through varying degrees of shared living, implemented in our interconnected “shells” that group together to form clusters.
We wanted the material that we used to have as little of an environmental impact as possible and to have a therapeutic effect both in its form and its properties. In constructing our form, we use a combination of cob and wood, with cob forming the structural walls and wood forming the curved roof.
