Avery Workshop: Community Engagement

Thu, Feb 24, 2022    6pm

Please join us for the next Avery Workshop on Community Engagement. Led by Carolyn Swope, GSAPP doctoral student in Urban Planning, this workshop will introduce critical frameworks useful for thoughtful engagement with communities across a variety of projects, geographies, and identities.

Taking inspiration from the 2021-2022 Incubator Prize, this workshop will provide an overview of best practices for engaging communities when developing projects for the built environment. Topics will include why community engagement is essential to a project’s success; different frameworks for the role of community engagement and input in projects; aligning goals for community engagement with practice; and navigating questions of power and identity.

The Avery Workshops is a series of professional development programming that responds to the creative and professional practice of GSAPP graduates. Sponsored by the Alumni Programming and Professional Development Committee of the GSAPP Alumni Board.
