X-Talk #22 by Nabil Abu Dayyeh, Associate Professor of Architecture, Applied Science University
Recent planning of Greater Amman marks a historic shift from the past focus on accommodating waves of migrants, to that of accommodating a migrant capital. The economic planning of Amman represented by the Investment Promotion Law of 1995, has promoted decentralization and extremely dispersive suburbanization. Tracing the planning for Amman throughout its half-a-century of history from 1955 to 2010 puts the whole effort into perspective, and may hopefully contribute towards a debate on future visions for the city.
