Beyond visualization, GIS and GIScience offer analytical possibilities for both design research and intervention from cartographic decision modeling to data-driven spatial network analysis. Furthermore, GIS has become an important political instrument allowing communities and regions to (geo)graphically tell their stories. This course introduces core concepts of GIS and GIScience, as well as technical skills crucial for working within urban environments. By creating and analyzing diverse types of spatial data—and layering those within complex maps—students are challenged to build arguments and construct geospatial narratives.
