Housing more than any other building typology encapsulates these themes of displacement, identity, urban growth, and inequality. The home is a very specific space through which one can read a society’s sense of itself, indeed its very essence. This applies to both state-led initiatives and informal forms of dwelling. In looking at housing forms across the region, and the various experiments that were carried out over the course of the 20th and 21st century, this course explores the very nature of the Arab city.
