Fuzzy Symmetry

Following a collective examination of the NYC’s affordable housing shortage and fatigued water management systems, students propose housing projects for a seemingly symmetrical site on Roosevelt Island which simultaneously pushes back on existing models of living and outdated water management systems. They question the role of symmetry (or lack thereof) between the reasons for each crisis and collectively theorizes the role of symmetry as well as asymmetry, bilateral symmetry, translational symmetry, etc. The studio asks: In what way can symmetry become a useful tool to analyze and redraw the existing conditions?
