GSAPP Graduation Ceremony, May 13, 2023

The GSAPP Graduation Ceremony is held on the South Lawn (between Low Memorial Library and Butler Library), and is followed by receptions in Havemeyer Plaza and Avery/Schermerhorn Plaza.

Schedule

The schedule is as follows:

  • 10:00am
    Student check-in opens, graduates begin line-up in Lerner Hall
  • 11:00am
    Gates open for guests
  • 12:00pm
    Ceremony begins with Graduate Procession to South Lawn
  • 2:00pm
    Receptions begin in Havemeyer Plaza and Avery/Schermerhorn Plaza
  • 6:00pm
    Receptions end
Order Your Cap and Gown

Regalia is mandatory for all graduation events including the GSAPP Ceremony on May 13. All academic attire, including the cap and gown, is ordered through the Columbia University Bookstore either in-person at Lerner Hall, or through the Online store.

For more information on academic attire, graduation announcements, class rings, and diploma frames, please call the Bookstore directly at 212-854-4132.

  • Master’s Degrees: Last day to order Bachelor and Master Regalia: April 12, 2023.
  • Doctoral Degrees: Last day to order Doctoral Regalia: March 29, 2023.

Confirm Your Participation in the GSAPP Ceremony

All graduates who intend to walk at the 2023 GSAPP Graduation ceremony need to register online in advance, regardless of their need for guest tickets. The registration website will be live in late March and graduates will receive an email inviting them to complete this step through the Marching Order website.

On that site, graduates will be able to:

  • Register to confirm walking with your program (dual degree students will choose one program)
  • Complete the Photo Consent Form (GradImages)
  • Record your name for the preferred pronunciation
  • Complete the Alumni Survey to stay in contact after graduation
Reserve Your Guest Tickets

Each eligible graduate will be able to use AudienceView to order up to four (4) guest tickets for GSAPP Graduation Ceremony on May 13, and up to two (2) guest tickets for the University Commencement on May 17. Graduates do not need their own ticket for the May 13 GSAPP Graduation Ceremony, but they will need a ticket for the May 17 University Commencement.

  1. To get the tickets, visit https://columbiagrad.universitytickets.com/ and log in using your username and temporary password. Username: UNI@columbia.edu Temporary Password: Columbia2023

  2. After logging in, you will be directed to the “Ticket Office Home,” where you will see all events that you are eligible to attend.

  3. Select up to four (4) guest tickets for the “Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation Ceremony” on May 13. Click “Add More To Cart” to return to the main page.

  4. Select up to two (2) guest tickets and a graduate ticket for “2023 University Commencement” on May 17.

  5. Once you have finished adding the tickets to your cart and entering the required checkout information, please hit the green “Checkout” at the bottom of the page to complete your registration.

  6. After checking out, you’ll be directed to the Order Confirmation page. Your Order # and Order details can be found on this page, where you can download your graduate and guest tickets. You will also receive an email confirmation with your Order #, important event information, a link to access your mobile tickets, and a link to download the pdf version of your tickets.

After the initial registration period closes, graduates will have the opportunity to request up to two (2) additional tickets for the May 13 GSAPP Graduation Ceremony on a first-come, first-served basis. Details will be shared once the initial registration period closes.

International Guest Travel
Please see the ISSO’s information on inviting family and friends to visit here. If graduating students need a formal invitation letter for international guests, please fill out this form to request one.
Request your Diploma

Diplomas are issued by the Office of the University Registrar.

Based on the degree conferral date for all graduates in April, May, and June of 2023, diplomas will be mailed to the “Diploma Address” that is on file in SSOL.

Live Stream
The ceremony will be livestreamed on the University website for anyone unable to attend: ​​https://commencement.columbia.edu/content/webcast
Pre-ceremony Slideshow
A slideshow will play for the family and guests at the event in advance of the ceremony. Please share your favorite moments of your time at GSAPP, and you may include greetings or thank-you messages to family or class-mates.
The deadline is Sunday, May 7 in order to ensure your material is included.

Graduate Photography
A professional photography firm, GradImages, will be present at the GSAPP Graduation Ceremony; each graduate will be photographed during the ceremony and will have the opportunity to purchase photos following the ceremony. Graduates have the opportunity to complete a consent form on the graduate registration website.
Dual Degree Candidates
Each graduate with a GSAPP dual degree will choose one of the programs with which to walk during the ceremony. You will select this in the graduate registration form confirming your participation. The second degree will be noted when your name is read at the ceremony. Students who are completing their dual degree in the Fall 2023 semester are eligible to participate in the May 2023 GSAPP Graduation Ceremony.
Disability Services
Graduates with guests who will need assistance or extra time to be seated are encouraged to contact us in advance at commencement@arch.columbia.edu and at access@columbia.edu with details so we will be prepared for your arrival and have appropriate seating available. We ask that guests needing assistance or in wheelchairs enter campus at the Amsterdam at 116th Street gate
