The Carless Suburb

In an effort to reduce sprawl, I selected the Franklin Mills Mall in Northeast Philadelphia as a site to redevelop a mixed-use and mixed income community. In order to transition demand from away from the suburbs and back to areas of mid-density, the goal of the new development is to feel suburban while having urban connectivity. Another goal is to rebuild communities of mid-density that are underutilized but have access to infrastructure, transportation and other community necessities. This led to an urban plan that de-emphasized the car.
