Using information gathered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), we worked to adapt and modernize a map of threatened coral reef locations in the Carribean. In 2014, NOAA identified the area outlined in the map below as the Northeast Marine Corridor and Culebra Island Habitat Focus Area (HFA). This declaration designated the area as the Carribean’s first HFA, meaning it would fall under the goals of their Habitat Blueprint framework. These goals include: habitat resilience, coral recovery, the promotion of sustainable recreation, and the execution of science to support marine resource management. Our proposed project for the area aligns with the goals listed above.
