The proposal uses game theory to incentivize community participation in removing excess nitrogen from the water, reducing harmful bacteria and restoring conditions for safe public access.
The proposal deploys a fleet of 60-foot diameter circular Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTWs) across the lake’s surface. Unanchored and indifferent to municipal boundaries, the units drift freely. These pods are designed to be captured: twice a year, the community harvests their accumulated biomass in a competitive aquatic event called The Ronkonkoma Regatta, turning the system’s maintenance into a strategic game with territorial rewards.
Large vibration generators positioned on the shoreline can push and pull pods so required maintenance is easier. Game theory was used to incentivize neighboring counties to compete against each other for % biomass collected.
