Corn Never Dies

Project by Qiming Yan, Yantian Luo

Our proposal explores a bio-composite made from corn stalk waste, one of Buffalo’s major agricultural byproducts, combined with fungal strains sourced from local wetlands and farmland. The project investigates both material applications and production processes, treating architecture as something that changes over time through growth, aging, and decay. It also reimagines Buffalo’s abandoned silos as productive infrastructure, transforming their unique thermal and atmospheric conditions into an industrial system for cultivating and manufacturing the composite material.
