Through Studio Core 2, this project developed across three phases to explore how biochar can scale from material research into architectural systems. First, literature research investigated biochar’s environmental potential, carbon storage capacity, and agricultural applications. Second, material experiments tested different biochar ratios mixed with soil and other aggregates to evaluate structural performance and architectural feasibility. Third, design studies explored how biochar could be applied spatially and materially within building systems. The final project synthesizes these investigations into an experimental dairy farm in Handan, China, where manure is transformed into biochar, energy, and architectural materials, proposing a closed-loop system that integrates agriculture, carbon sequestration, and future construction.
