Collective for Attentive Repair C.A.R. by Isabella Nicole De Andrade is an anonymous group that frames cracks in New York City. Originating from questions regarding the relationship between repair & care, & whose responsibility it is to repair cracks in different materials & locations, the focus of C.A.R. is to draw attention to these cracks by framing them. This act of framing places the cracks in a “museum” to highlight their importance & need for care. C.A.R. seeks out cracks in their mobile headquarters, stopping when they find a suitable area. Using a guerrilla art style approach, the framers emerge at night to frame all the cracks in the area, making the city itself the museum. Then the headquarters moves to their next location. Similarly to traditional museums, if “visitors” who notice the framed cracks wish to get involved with C.A.R., they may purchase a take-home framing kit.
