This project reactivates North Brother Island through a shared landscape for humans and birds, constructed from reclaimed brick aggregates sourced from the ruins of Riverside Hospital. Retaining attached mortar, the material is recast into layered walls and ground surfaces that form a swimming pool and a multi-species playground. Rather than separating users, the architecture produces gradients of water, texture, and shelter that can be inhabited differently across species. The playground becomes an environment of coexistence, where ecological restoration and human activity overlap, transforming a former site of isolation into a living system of acceptance, interaction, and material continuity.
