Drop City is an attempt to respond to the climate risks of the Himalayas and the Thar Desert. When settlements are threatened by floods during the hot desert summer, the first migration begins. The village follows their homes to the safe and cool mountains. They leave behind a new ecology that is just waiting for their return. In the Himalayas, the village begins its new synthetic climates, using just the snow of the mountains. When temperatures drop and winter approaches, the second migration begins. The wind drives the village back to the desert. A new synthetic climate forms: large scale termite mounds build themselves. And the cycle begins again.
