WIP (Wave In Progress) is a pavilion project located at Christopher Street Pier in New York, exploring the intersection of wave energy, infrastructure, and social space. The pavilion is conceived as a modular scaffolding system that supports small roof structures and wave-responsive devices. These components interact with passing boats and river currents, converting wave motion into electrical energy that powers the pavilion itself. In this way, waves are understood not only as natural phenomena but as byproducts of human activity and urban circulation. WIP operates simultaneously as Wave In Progress and Work In Progress—a space that remains open, adaptive, and unfinished. Rather than presenting a fixed monument, the project frames energy, infrastructure, and occupation as evolving processes, reflecting the pier’s ongoing transformation and the collective effort required to sustain public space.
