The Met has nearly a thousand pieces in its mask collection, most of which come from Africa, Asia, Native America, South America, and Oceania. The Met says it is a place to educate people, but where are these “textbooks” coming from? This video will show the life of the Lambayeque golden mask from Peru and its connection to the Met through a masquerade ball. It reveals the stories and masks behind this mask that led to its presence here at the Met.
