Pregnant Silences

This project explores the use of sound to visualize harmful spatial data. Specifically, as countless anti-abortion laws are passed throughout the United States, women in more and more locations are losing access to basic healthcare. According to Bloomberg, some women might need to travel up to a 552-mile round-trip to get an abortion. To illustrate the immense impacts of these laws without putting any more women at risk, this map uses sound rather than data points to show the number of abortion clinics throughout the country. Users can use their mouse to move the cursor around the page and hear the data within the circle radius. To adjust the radius, users can use the buttons in the bottom right corner. Take note of the pregnant silences.
