High Life/Low Tax: A Property Tax Exposé

The New York City property tax system has been a subject of criticism, with many people expressing their dissatisfaction with its regressiveness. To shed light on this matter, our project is to examine the top units of the highest-priced residential real estate properties sold between 2019 and 2022 and determine the amount of property tax they were levied. Our campaign is to make this information publicly available so that people know how much the ultra-rich pay or do not pay in property taxes. This move was aimed at promoting transparency in the property tax system and raising awareness of the disparities that exist in property tax rates. By making this information available, we hope that people will be better informed about the property tax disparity and be motivated to push for reforms that will make the system more equitable for all taxpayers and lower income homeowners.
