In light of the unwarranted closure of Chi Chiz, a gay bar that was located on West Christopher Street in the West Village, this project seeks to reinstate and reimagine this former social catalyst into a larger social hub that caters to the queer youth of color in New York City. The new facility is situated within the 1911 building that Chi Chiz once occupied. A barber shop, cafe, artists’ studio, classroom, and auditorium are among the new programmatic elements that augment and solidify the bar’s renewed existence.
