Energy Retrofits in Historic Preservation Housing

This proposal is about energy retrofits in Harlem’s historic public housing. The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) has different decarbonization strategies for its housing complexes, including recommendations on space heating, windows, and walls. However, some of these recommendations, such as installing window unit heat pumps or exterior insulation finishing systems, will greatly affect the buildings’ exterior appearance. Therefore, I propose a study on alternative designs through a charrette or committee meeting in which all stakeholders can take part.
