Oumaïma Jaïdane

Oumaïma Jaïdane Yıldız is a Doctoral Student in Architecture at Columbia GSAPP, where she is also pursuing a graduate certificate in Comparative Literature & Society. Oumaïma received a Bachelor in Architecture from Izmir Institute of Technology, and a Master’s in History of Architecture from Middle East Technical University. Her Master’s thesis, supported by the Association pour l’Histoire des Chemins de Fer, engaged with the history of the first railway in Tunisia, particularly with local, Ottoman, and non-French agencies at play in its establishment and transformations both before and after the French occupation. She is currently interested in infrastructures and material extraction in late nineteenth century South-West Mediterranean beyond colonialism. Her work has been supported by the Global Urban History Project among others and has appeared in Akdeniz Journal of Communication Studies.
