GSAPP Making Studio Mobilized to Produce Face Shields

The GSAPP Makerspace is collaborating with the COVID Maker Response coalition to produce face shields for healthcare workers.

Media Advisory
April 3, 2020

3D printers and laser cutters at the GSAPP Making Studio are currently being mobilized to produce face shields based on a design and guide produced by the COVID Maker Response (CMR), a coalition of makers responding to the COVID-19 pandemic founded by librarians at Columbia University Libraries and Tangible Creative. The coalition also includes MakerBot and other service providers.

“It’s fair to say that it’s been an explosion of grassroots activity in the last 10 days with new organized efforts popping up daily,” states Josh Jordan, Director of the Making Studio at GSAPP. Yonah Elorza, Manager of Making Studio, has been providing assistance to a CMR affiliate to facilitate the production process.

In addition to managing the production and assembly of face shields, CMR is also staying informed regarding parallel designs and efforts that might allow them to manufacture additional equipment for hospitals facing shortages. To learn more about the initiative and donate or request supplies, please visit the COVID Maker Response website.
