2023 Architecture + Design Independent Projects Grant Recipients

Many GSAPP alumni are among the recipients of the Architectural League’s 2023 Architecture + Design Independent Projects Grants

In November 2023, the Architectural League of New York and The New York State Council on the Arts announced the 2023 Architecture + Design Independent Projects grant recipients. 25 proposals, representing a range of design disciplines and locations throughout New York State, were selected to receive grants of $10,000 each.

Among the recipients are several projects led by GSAPP alumni:

  • Designing Public Power: An Atlas of Public Lands and Design Scenarios for the Implementation of the Build Public Renewables Act – Andrea Johnson '08 M.Arch
  • Repairing Together: Ongoing and Future Reconstruction Efforts in Ukraine – GSAPP Faculty Galen Pardee '16 M.Arch, with Betty Roytburd
  • Multispecies Totem: Exploring habitats and renewable energy – Ian Gordon '06 MSAAD, with Eva Perez de Vega
  • Presence of the Absence: Reconstructing the Michigan Street Historic Black Corridor –  Darius Somers '14 MSAAD, current student Teonna Cooksey '24 M.Arch & MSUP, with Latoya Kamdang

GSAPP Faculty Ifeoma Ebo is also among the recipients for the project Reparations in Public Space with Antoinette Cooper.
