Jake Berman

Adjunct Assistant Professor

Jake Berman is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Columbia GSAPP’s MSUP program, focusing on the intersection of public transport and urban development. By day, he practices government contracts law, and has served as lead counsel on hundreds of millions of dollars of agreements, representing clients in both the private and public sectors. He writes extensively on transport, procurement, and housing issues; his work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Guardian, and Vice.

He is the author and illustrator of The Lost Subways of North America: A Cartographic Guide to the Past, Present, and What Might Have Been (University of Chicago Press, 2023). Jake holds a JD from New York University and a BA in History from the University of California at Berkeley.
