Longing

Studio-X Istanbul
Dec 16, 2016 - Feb 3, 2017

Longing is a joint exhibition by Swiss photographer Robert Huber and German journalist Gunnar Köhne. Huber and Köhne question social and cultural identities of this country from their point of view.

Köhne’s 25 video interviews and Huber’s 12 large scale photographs frame the familiar details with new meanings. These works are produced by Köhne and Huber throughout the long years they spent in Istanbul, portraying hopes, longings and realities peculiar to this city. In a time of great political, economic and cultural change for Turkey. In Gunnar Köhne’s videos, we see people living in Istanbul fighting to fulfill their aspirations in their own ways.

Some of the stories will make us smile, others will make us think. In Robert Huber’s photographs the real clashes with the imaginary in the divisive subject of urban transformation. These are temporary landscapes of uncertain outcome, urban scenes of a questionable truth.

The identities portrayed by these two “outsiders” invite you to look at the city from another perspective.
