Studio X Mumbai turns 5 years old this Thursday February 11 2016!
Please join us for the festivities celebrating over 135 Public Talks, 90 Student Travels, 16 GSAPP Faculty Projects, 25 Exhibitions, 23 Workshops and over 15,000 Visitors working with over 38 Institutions and 630 academics, professionals and experts in fields focused on understanding and contemplating our cities.
The event for the evening, a provocative roundtable discussion and look at the process behind the Porosity Kabari (Porous Junk) workshop, an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, collaborative project whereby Australian object designer Trent Jansen, and architect/sculptor Richard Goodwin, are working with Indian graphic/object designer Ishan Khosla as well as students from ISDI / Parsons Mumbai at Studio X Mumbai.
The project challenges these designers to collaborate in Mumbai’s ‘Chor Bazaar’ (thieves market) and ‘Studio X’, using the bazaar as their only source of materials and making processes. In the bazaar, the designers will learn from spontaneous conversation and experimentation with the vendors and crafts people working in this manic market place. Conversely, Studio X affords the designers a space for considered discussion and precise prototyping, in the development of refined ideas to be taken back into the bazaar.
The project also emphasizes the condition of the collaborative by mobilizing various disciplines of the arts together to create a rich and vibrant working process for the designers as well as the local crafts people and vendors.
