ECO-SUSTAINABLE CLEANING SOLUTIONS FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE

Please join the Historic Preservation program at GSAPP for a lecture by Pilar Bosch, Assistant Professor at Polytechnic University of Valencia, researcher and assistant manager at the Universitary Institute of Cultural Heritage Restoration.

Preserving Cultural Heritage with eco-sustainable emerging technologies is one of the actual challenges for the conservation and restoration field. Implicating a complex and multidisciplinary task that requires the collaboration of interdisciplinary teams and the application of emerging technologies.

At the Cultural Heritage Research Institute from the Polytechnical University of Valencia, we are working on diverse research & development projects related to the development of innovative cleaning solutions. Four restoration projects will be exposed on this conference:

  1. The biocleaning application of microorganisms to clean the Wall paintings of Santos Juanes church of Valencia and xenobiotic materials as an alternative to the traditional cleaning method.

  2. The use of bionanotechnological approaches for the biodeterioration cleaning and antimicrobial preservative coatings.

  3. The air quality improvement using Essential oils diffusion on contaminated cultural heritage indoor spaces.

  4. The development of dry-ice blasting Cultural Heritage as an innovative and sustainable Cultural Heritage cleaning solution.

Pilar Bosch graduated in Biology (2005) by University of Valencia, Spain; PhD in Conservation and Restoration of Art Works (2011), and a post-doc stage at University of Molise, Italy (2013-2015). She has professional experience working in public institutions and private companies in different countries (Italy, Germany, Norway and Spain), with scientific contributions in the recuperation of artworks (including photographs, Baroque wall paintings, Medieval bridges, canvas paintings, Spanish civil war textiles, mummies) by developing Green-Ecofriendly-sustainable Biotechnological techniques to the Conservation and Restoration (CR) field.

Bosch has obtained 6 innovation and transfer prizes and participated in 14 exhibitions and 52 congresses and symposiums. Bosch is also the author of 68 Research publications (23JCR, with 90 diverse institutions) participating in 17 national projects,1 European Project, and 18 R&D contracts with enterprises or public entities.
