“Cycling for Memory”

Wed, May 25, 2016    2pm

Kadıköy Municipality –Department of Cycling is starting to organise “Cycling for Memory” tours The aim of the organisation is cycling to discover the history of the city.

The routes and locations will be identified with the support of the NGOS working collective memory.

Where? We will meet in announced meeting points (i.e. Kadıköy Kalamış Park) to cycle on the selected route. When we reach the destination, the historians will share the collective memory of the place with us.

How to make it memorable? Instead of cycling with a random route, we will cycle by creating an image on the map with a unique rote. The smart phone apps are measuring our speed, the distance and the route we follow, however, we would like to take this a step further and shape our route in a creative way like an image of a giraffe or Darth Vader. This format is inspired by the American artist Stephen Lund, creator of the “Strava Arts”.

Call for Action! This is an open call for the designers, imagineers, the ones who know the difference between looking and seeing. We would like to draw those cycling maps with your support and imagination!

We will be waiting for you to join us on May 25th, Wednesday afternoon at Studio-X, Istanbul to shape up our maps. All the participants will be provided by the guideline and materials like maps and tracing papers. The participants can bring their own laptops to use the apps like MapMyRide
