X-TALK #23 BY AHMAD AL ALI & FARID ESMAEIL

Wed, May 18, 2016    7pm

X-Talk #23 by Ahmad Al Ali & Farid Esmaeil Co-Founders, X-Architects (Dubai)

on Wednesday, May 18th at 7pm German Jordanian University, SABE, Amman

This is not a polemical presentation celebrating or glorifying a set of ideals or positions. It is simply a journey of an Arab architect challenged by a constantly transforming world at a speed that has never been experienced before. Overrated concepts like ‘identity’ and ‘culture’ are ceaselessly emphasized, yet we remain in an ungraspable condition that is constantly changing form under the pressures of reality. At X-Architects, we find ourselves asking the questions: what does it mean to be an Arab architect in such times? Do we have ‘obligations’ or ‘messages’ that we have to communicate? What is Arab architecture and what forms it should translate? The presentation will address these questions only by widening our perspectives on them, as well as by touching upon the real challenges we face in the building of Arabia.
