This lecture has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, an announcement will be available here when it is rescheduled.

A lecture by Emmanuel Pratt, Executive Director of the Sweet Water Foundation with response by Kate Orff, Professor and Director of GSAPP’s Urban Design Program.

Emmanuel will show the work, process and vision of the Sweet Water Foundation, a Chicago-based regenerative community. Sweet Water utilizes a blend of urban agriculture, art and education to transform vacant spaces and abandoned buildings into economically and ecologically productive and sustainable community assets that produce engaged youth, skilled workers, art, locally-grown food, and affordable housing.

Emmanuel Pratt is co-founder and executive director of the Sweet Water Foundation in Chicago. He served as the director of aquaponics at Chicago State University from 2011-2019, and he was the Charles Moore Visiting Professor at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan from 2017 to 2019. In 2016, he was named a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and in 2019 he was named a MacArthur Fellow.

Pratt received a Bachelor of Architecture in 1999 from Cornell University and his Master of Science in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia GSAPP in 2003.
