Spring 2021 Return to Campus

January 22, 2021

Dear Students,

I am writing to share important updates in preparation for a successful return to campus for Spring 2021. Avery, Buell, Schermerhorn and Fayerweather studios will reopen this Monday, January 25th at 9 AM. Due to an increase in architecture students opting to work in-person, studio room schedules offer students a minimum of three and a half days access in two rotations.

To protect those who will be working and studying on campus, Columbia will require all returning students to follow its commitment to provide a safe working environment. Our continued priority is to keep our community and their families healthy, especially in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Accessing Campus

Have you completed this list yet?

As we plan to return to campus with the hope of further increasing in-person sessions and access to facilities, I ask you to remain especially cautious at this moment when COVID-19 cases are increasing across the city and country. Thank you for your continued commitment and diligence in adhering to the University’s enhanced health and safety policy and the Columbia Compact. Please remember that violations of the compact, no matter how minor, can jeopardize student privileges including studio and campus access.

The most recently updated COVID-19 Public Health Protocols can be found on the University website, and include:

  • Wearing a face covering over nose and mouth at all times on campus
  • Keeping at least six feet (two arms lengths) apart from other people
  • Completing Columbia’s symptom tracker app every day before coming to campus or leaving a campus residence hall, and staying home when sick or after possible exposure to COVID-19
  • Following basic health precautions including frequent hand washing/sanitizing and workplace and shared-space hygiene
  • Following signs and guidance posted throughout campus spaces and buildings
  • Participating in testing and contact tracing when required, and isolation and quarantine protocols, when required.

Support Resources

Health Services has an impressive roster of groups for the spring semester, responsive to current student concerns.  The Columbia Health website has been updated to reflect these offerings.

Thank you again for your ongoing contributions throughout the semester, and for your efforts and commitment to our community’s health. Please feel free me at ds89@columbia.edu with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Danielle Smoller
Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs.
