Dear Colleagues,
I’m very pleased to share that Professor Weiping Wu has been
appointed to serve as Vice Provost for Academic Programs by Interim Provost Dennis Mitchell. Her new appointment takes effect September 1, 2023, and I am very happy for the University’s recognition of Weiping and the incisive and thoughtful contributions she will be able to make during this important moment in Columbia’s history.
During the 2023-24 academic year, Weiping will continue to serve as Director of the M.S. in Urban Planning program. Professor Tom Slater will serve as the Interim Director of the Ph.D. in Urban Planning program. Tom joined GSAPP in Fall 2022 and has quickly become a significant member of the School and the Urban Planning programs. His scholarship and teaching on the issues related to gentrification and urban inequality are critical to our understanding of cities and societies, and I am grateful for his willingness to oversee the doctoral program in Urban Planning.
I look forward to collaborating with Weiping in her new role as Vice Provost in the years ahead.
