Community for Senior Artists

This project aimed to propose an artist retirement community to help them keep their creative lifestyle. In the site plan, every rectangular residential building is intersected with circular public working space. The overlapped intermediate space is defined as a semi-public living area where the active wall concept is inserted. The overlapped area becomes the bridge that connects the living and working space of artists. The project also provides service amenities to support the retirement community: the Dolan building becomes a guest hotel and the abandoned warehouse becomes a nursing center. Residents with artistic background can feel more engaged with their neighbors and the community because of their shared interests. The community does not necessarily exist in a bubble. Exhibitions of residents’ work will be held to the public so that residents can get involved in local community activities.
