Co-curated by Gauri Bahuguna ‘20 M.Arch and Candice Strongwater, Uneven Geographies is a group exhibition that brings together architects, activists, and researchers working across different geographies and grappling with struggles over land, justice, and representation. The show opens September 3rd at the Anya and Andrew Shiva Gallery at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and runs through October 30th.

Architect Elizabeth Leber ‘95 M.Arch, a University of Pennsylvania alumna and partner at Beyer Blinder Belle, recently completed the renovation of Penn’s historic Quadrangle dormitories. The three-year, phased restoration of Fisher Hassenfeld, Riepe, and Ware Houses updated spaces for learning and community while preserving the Quad’s historic character and traditions. The project was especially meaningful to Leber, who once lived in the Quad as a first-year student.

Columbia University’s 611 W. 112th Street, a historic building transformed into an all-electric undergraduate residence hall, received two Merit Awards from ENR New York for Renovation/Restoration and Sustainability. The two-year renovation restored the building’s historic masonry, windows, roof, and cornices while adding modern infrastructure and sustainable systems. The project preserves the building’s historic character while reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 43% compared to a standard NYC residence hall.
